A Piece-en-Piece Log Structure is essentially a load-baring post and beam frame using horizontal log infill panels for the walls.  The tradition of piece-en-piece was a logical choice in areas where long logs were less available.  The short-log infill panels also made construction easier  in the absence of the lifting systems we enjoy today.

While handcrafted, piece-en-piece is the most labor-intensive and expensive option (every log requires cutting and fitting to the posts no matter its length), our groundbreaking robot-assisted log building techniques allow us to produce our piece-en-piece buildings at lower production costs than all of our other log home construction styles.

Equally important to lowering cost, we achieve joinery tolerances and fits that we could only dream of before using ABBy's technology, making your home more strong and stable.

Piece-en-Piece and Post and Beam homes use large diameter wood of approximately 18 - 24 inches, and our preferred wood species are Western Red Cedar,  Douglas Fir and Alaskan Yellow Cedar when it's available.
